The Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper that was injured in an early Thursday morning crash has been identified as Jason Phillips. Phillips is a 2015 graduate of Teays Valley High School and recent graduate of the State Patrol Academy.
Around 2:40 a.m., Trooper Jason Phillips was on his way to an impaired driver call on I-71 North in Morrow County. Phillips was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling the wrong way then both vehicles caught on fire.
Phillips was flown to Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken to a hospital in Mansfield also in critical condition.
The alleged wrong-way driver has been identified as Michael Marchak Jr., 36, of Mansfield. He was also listed in critical condition. The vehicle being driven by Marchak is the same vehicle Phillips was dispatched to investigate.
